A Love Letter from Alex
When I see a person performing or sharing art that conveys themselves authentically in a way that resonates with me, I feel an almost intoxicating admiration for them and the art that they create.
It pulls forward my own desire to create art that speaks to others in a similar way.
I love creative people and the art that they create. Their courage and creativity inspires me to embrace who I really am on my most authentic level; a creative soul with a deep and needful desire to create.
It’s not that I’ve been ignoring this desire; I’ve built my entire life around it. The problem is, up until recently, the careers and creative pursuits that have sustained me were all about creating on someone else's terms, and for someone else’s needs. They have been safe avenues in which to openly express my identity as a creative, without the same level of risk. This is because they never required me to share from the vulnerable space of authenticity.
I’m entering an era wherein I want my creative energy to be delivered on my terms and to serve my needs. I want my authenticity to shine through and draw people in. And equally as important, I want the art that I create to support me, which means: I have to get vulnerable enough to put myself out there.
This concept has served as major inspiration for the main character of my novel (which I started writing in October of 2023, and am currently querying). She is a deeply emotional, creative, and magical soul who embarks on a journey that is all about learning from past mistakes, embracing her most authentic dreams, and learning to love and accept herself in the process. I don’t know if it will go anywhere, but I’m proud of what I created, and I hope that one day, it’s something I can share widely.
My novel is a love letter to my younger self, a permission slip for my soul, and a strategic attempt at going after the things I want most in this world.
This publication is a love letter to all of my fellow dreamers, creatives, and idealists. We are creating the world we want to live in together, and I hope that the essays, stories, and artistic expressions conveyed through Love & Magic push you to be the change you want to see in the world. I hope they remind you that you don’t have to deny yourself the gift of authentic expression. I hope they direct you to check in with the desires you tend to ignore. And I hope they inspire you to create whatever it is you want to create.
